1 Hot L Baltimore, The : A Play (Mermaid Dramabook) Wilson, Lanford
New York Farrar, Straus and Giroux / 1973 0-8090-1230-8 / 9780809012305 Mass Mkt. P B Very Good
The letter 'E' is burned out on the neon lighted lettering of the aging, scheduled to close Hotel Baltimore and the assorted low income residents andworkers are going through their daily routine while the wrecking ball loomsnearby. This urban themed play about the network of support these city dwellers have built for one another is poignant and comically abrasive, very 70sish, and while all the themes don't quite mesh, it is a successful character ensemble of psychological survival at the lower end of the social scale. The basis for a short-lived ABC-TV sitcom from the 1970s. MInor rubbing and edgewear, still in very good condition.

2 Ludlow Fair and Home Free: Two One-Act Plays in One Volume Wilson, Lanford
New York, Dramatist's Play Service Inc 1993 0-8222-1628-0 / 9780822216285 Trade paperbac Very Good
Some shelf wear and the part of "Rachel" in Ludlow Fair is highlighted. 5.25" X 7.75", 52 pgs.LUDLOW FAIR. In words of the Village Voice, this "?is a bedtime story about two girl roommates. Rachael is glamorous, fast-living, sometimes lost in her own self-dramatizations; Agnes is plain, matter-of-fact, her shyness masked by a kooky personality. The play is ostensibly about Rachael: She turned her latest boyfriend in to the police when he stole from her, and now she is remorseful?now she decides she is in love with him. Agnes tries to cheer her up with wisecracks, then tries to rekindle her self-awareness, and finally Rachael goes to sleep. Agnes is left alone, thinking about her lunch date with the boss' disappointing son tomorrow. And suddenly it is her play, the realist is the true romantic. Agnes' unprepossessing but real emotions outweigh Rachel's trumped-up, self-indulgent flourishes, and suddenly the play is simple and moving." (2 women.) HOME FREE! Lawrence and Joanna, a brother and sister in their mid-twenties, have cut themselves off from the world "outside," living in a cluttered playroom which they share with two imaginary companions, "Edna" and "Claypone." Surrounded by toys, including a brightly colored miniature Ferris wheel, they have created an atmosphere of almost suffocating intimacy and remove, where play becomes the business of life and reality an alien force to be kept at bay. But life intrudes all the same, and their fantasies have betrayed them into Joanna's pregnancy. Yet even this cruel irony can only be dealt with in almost antic, unreal terms, as though it too were but a facet of the dream worl

3 Serenading Louie Wilson, Lanford
New York Farrar Straus & Giroux / Hil 1985 0-8090-1249-9 / 9780809012497 Mass Mkt. P B Very Good
Lanford Wilson's Serenading Louie, the second revision of a 1970 play, is sensitive, serious, honest, funny, unsatisfying, and tremendously worthy. Itis about everything and nothing, which means that if there were a catalogof themes, it would have to be filed under 'Life, the meaning of'. Slight rubbing to one area of cover, else VG.

4 Serenading Louie: A play Wilson, Lanford
Hill and Wang 1985 0-8090-8538-0 / 9780809085385 1st Edition Hardcover Very Good
From the PublisherTwo young, suburban couples, friends of long standing, are suddenly aware of the strains and pressures that have inexorably come into their lives. Adultery is one of these - a fact for one of the wives, and an imminent possiblility for one of the husbands. As the couples come together to examine their plight and to probe the genesis of their unhappiness, the play moves deftly in and out of reality, with the characters sometimes talking to each other and sometimes directly to the audience. Ultimately, out of a mosaic of fascinating conversations, comes new and liberating knowledge about the loneliness that exists in marriage and about how individuals must make a crucial commitment if they truly and effectively are to share in each other's lives.
